Frequently Asked Questions:
How many sessions will I need to book? -We advise that blocks of 4 or 10 sessions are scheduled at a time to enable a regular slot to be guaranteed to you for the duration of the block. Booking individual sessions at a time will not guarantee you will get the day and time of your preference. Adult support classes may wish to be booked individually especially if group sessions and are being attended at a different venue from our base or an attendees home. As each child (or adult) is individual, we cannot guarantee that the targets you wish to achieve can be limited to a set amount of sessions. We all learn at different rates and retain information at different speeds.
Can my child be collected from school, or taken to school scheduled around their tutoring session? Yes, this is a service we provide. However, the tutoring slot must immediately either precede or succeed this additional service. This has an additional charge of £5 per child per session.
How much do tutoring sessions cost? Please see the 'pricing' tab at the top of our home page for details. Any further information or booking can be attained by e-mailing primestarttutoringks1@gmail.com
What does my child need to bring to each session? Do they need a device? Children are encouraged to bring a bottle of water/ squash to drink and slippers if attending at base. They can also bring their school reading book with them if reading is a target intervention required. Personal devices should not be brought to tuition classes. If children are taking part in group sessions, additional reading books or silent activities (eg colouring) can be brought to engage the child during their peer's tuition time. Group sessions may involve equal times being designated individually as well as collaboratively depending on age/ range of targets required per child. Tutors will provide their own devices for any educational activities where they are required.
Where is the tutoring base? The base is in Watcombe, Torquay (exact address given when sessions are booked). It is a private property but CCTV is recorded for parents to view the tutoring space at any time.
Can parents/ siblings stay and watch at the tutoring base? Parents/ siblings are encouraged to wait outside the tutoring space to enable greater focus from the child being tutored with less distractions, or leave and return at the end of the session. There is a toilet and seating in the waiting area but please keep noise/ telephone conversations etc to a minimum to minimise distractions.
How will I know how my child is doing? Each tutoring session will be followed up by communication as to progress, next steps and ideas to further revise the learning from the session. Weblinks can be provided to engage in useful educational activities at home if wished.
